Learning the Art of being careful
Well as some of you already know, my blog has been down for four days. Now for some people that might not be a big deal, but I have been working hard recently to increase my readership and having it go down like that, well that was a long four days.
Now you are probably wondering what caused it. I must admit, it was all my fault. When my blog was originally built, it was all custom, every upgrade needed to go through the web builders. Well with the release of WordPress 2.8.1 and the automatic upgrade, I thought (yes here it comes) it would be simple. Just follow the directions, five steps and it would be done. Wrong answer. Something happened and it crashed my blog and would not allow me to log in.
So after a frantic email and a couple of phone calls, they were able to get me going again. While they were at it, they made some changes so I could theoretically upgrade and add plugins myself. Dare I take that chance now? Not yet I won’t.
It was a lesson learned, no different then we as photographers feel that quality photos should be left to the pros, so should web design. I will be the first to admit I know just about nothing on web design and custom blogs. So from now on, until it has been tested again, any upgrades and plugins will be handled by the company that built my web site and blog. Redline Edition.
I also learned that a web site should be upgraded about once a year, if you feel comfortable with that. So I guess that means some more changes will be coming.
Thanks for reading and welcome back!
Take care, Larz
